Parent Involvement:

Your student’s success depends upon a collaboration of Parent/Guardian, Student & School.  It is of the utmost importance that you reinforce what is being instructed to your student and with your guidance and support of additional learning.  Homework, while kept at a minimum, is necessary for reinforcement of learning. Reading with your student on a regular routine is important for their continued growth.

Attendance:

Daily regular attendance is necessary for your student to gain the most from their school time. Students should arrive by no earlier than 7:15 am and report to the Johnson Fellowship Hall. School starts at 7:30 am – 2:30pm.  To be counted as present for the day, the student must be in class for at least 5.30 hours of the day. If the time is less than that they are considered absent.

Hours of Attendance Required by NC: Your student is required to attend 185 days or 1025 hours. To maintain a flexible schedule for Dr. appointments and extra tutoring WCA elects to follow the hour requirements. Each year a school calendar will be set, however situations may arise that it may be changed as necessary.   WCA will begin classes in August and end in May with variances as posted. Our teacher workdays will be set for Fridays, and we will have a total of 9 workdays as required by North Carolina Law.

Operation Hours:

Mon- Tues – Thurs- Fri 7:30 – 2:30, Wed 7:30-11:30.  For a total of 32 hours per week of instruction. Friday afternoon will be make-up time and tutoring. Please make appointments on Wednesday afternoon to limit your students’ absences.

Absences:

Examples of Excused Absences: 1. Sickness (3rd day requires a Dr.’s note). 2. Death in the immediate family. 3. Doctor/Dental appointment. 4. Court appearance.

Truancy:

A student with fifteen or more unexcused absences is in the truancy violation and will be required to make up missed days. Dates and times will be set by WCA, and the parent will be made aware of multiple absences/tardies.  All doctor appointments require a note in order to be excused. They are eligible to make up time and schoolwork. Personal reasons are considered unexcused absence.  Iredell County officials and NC State will be notified in the event of any Truancy Violations.

After School Care:

The WAC will be offering after school care for our students only. 2:30 – 6:00 pm. There will be an additional charge for any time after the set time. Please provide an afternoon snack for your child.

Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum:

A.C.E. is designed around a new format: that of building skill upon skill. The scope and sequence ignore the concept of grade level and moves with continuous progress beginning with the first skill to be mastered. Depending on their ability and motivation levels, students may move ahead rapidly or take as long as necessary, but each student must master the concepts in the  material.

Each student learns essential academics and explores truths about God and His world without being pressured to keep up with a group.

As the student moves upward, level after level, and moves into new concepts, they are far better prepared to learn because they have mastered the skill on the previous level. They will not advance until they have mastered each concept. They are not lock stepped with their classmates but are learning individually and completely before advancing. A.C.E. implements a unique and effective system.

Dress Code:

  • Uniform style dress pants, shorts and females may add knee length skirts or jumpers. Students may wear either navy, gray, blue, black, or khaki uniforms.  The length of uniform shorts/shirts/dresses must not rise more than 2 inches above the middle of the knee when seated.
  • Solid colored polo shirts.
