You Are Loved

n a world that often feels fractured and uncertain – from rapidly evolving AI and global events to the everyday pressures of life – today’s sermon, “You Are Loved,” offered a powerful and much-needed anchor in God’s unwavering affection for us.

Drawing from Malachi 1:1-4, we were reminded of God’s ancient declaration of love for Israel, even when they doubted it. “Is not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated.” This passage, while stark, highlights a profound truth: God’s love is not based on our merit or performance, but on His sovereign choice and steadfast covenant. Even when we feel unlovable or question His presence in the midst of our challenges – perhaps in our careers, our relationships, or our personal struggles – God’s Word assures us that His love is a foundational truth, predating our existence and enduring through all circumstances. Just as He declared His love for Jacob despite Esau’s proximity, so too does God set His affection upon us, distinguishing us by His grace.

The sermon then illuminated this truth further with Jeremiah 23:29: “Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?” This verse speaks to the transformative power of God’s Word, which is the very vehicle through which His love is revealed and enacted. In 2025, amidst an era of information overload and often fleeting digital connections, the Word of God stands out as a constant, potent force. It’s a fire that purifies, burning away our doubts and fears, and a hammer that breaks down the hardened walls of cynicism or self-condemnation that prevent us from fully embracing His love. When we allow God’s Word to penetrate our hearts, it doesn’t just inform us of His love; it actively reshapes our understanding of ourselves and our place in His grand design.
