46th Anniversary Service Message

17 September, 2025

he church is not just a building; it’s a living, growing community of believers. ⛪ This is emphasized in Ephesians 2:19-22, which describes the church as a “fellow citizen with the saints” and a part of God’s household. It’s a structure “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone.” This highlights the importance of Christ as the central, unifying piece, as also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:11 and 1 Peter 2:7, where He is called the “cornerstone.”

The church is an ongoing project. While the foundation is set, 1 Peter 2:5 says believers are like “living stones” being “built up as a spiritual house.” This imagery suggests an active process where each member has a vital role. In this sense, the church’s 46th anniversary is a celebration of 46 years of God’s work in building this spiritual house. It’s a reminder that although we’ve been working, “unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (Psalms 127:1). This verse reminds us that the church’s success and longevity are due to God’s hand, not solely our own efforts.

A Sanctuary for the Holy Spirit

Another key theme in these scriptures is that the church and its members are a dwelling place for God. 1 Kings 8:27 poignantly asks, “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built!” Yet, this is precisely what happens. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 declares that our bodies are “a temple of the Holy Spirit,” a concept extended to the church as a whole in Ephesians 2:22, which states that believers are “being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” The anniversary is a time to reflect on the incredible privilege of being God’s dwelling place and to remember that we are called to honor Him with our lives.

Remembering Our Purpose

As the church celebrates its 46th anniversary, these verses encourage reflection on its purpose. 1 Kings 8:58 states that we should live in a way that allows God to “incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways.” The church’s purpose is to facilitate this relationship with God and with one another, serving as a community where the Holy Spirit resides. Therefore, the 46th anniversary is a moment to celebrate the past, acknowledge God’s faithfulness, and look forward to the future, committed to being a living, growing, and spiritual home for God’s presence in the world.
